There are so many different types of solitaire diamond engagement rings In short, there are 3 different solitaires:

A solitaire diamond engagement ring with prongs is the most well-known and beloved option. The single diamond is kept in place by little claws or prongs. It depends a little on the shape how many prongs a solitaire diamond ring has. In general, you can say that the more prongs, the securer the diamond is attached.
